A rich, creamy and chocolatey iced espresso drink to liven things up
This is probably gonna be one of my favorite posts cause it’s all about my beloved iced coffee!! <3 Iced coffee is my favorite type of coffee. I drink it cold more so than I drink it hot. I guess it’s because I’m from California and I would get an iced coffee or frappuccino almost year-round. There’s just something about iced coffee that takes me back to sunny Cali, sipping the iced coffee in the early mornings on the back patio in the summer, appreciating the sunrise. Or my dad and I stopping by our local Starbucks and always getting the White Chocolate Frappucino. I got him hooked on it. (You’re welcome, Dad!).
In my opinion, iced coffee wakes me up more. In that first sip, you get a jolt of delicious ice coffee greatness that jolts you awake. (I just realized I used jolt twice in that sentence) And suddenly, you feel a little more alive, a little more energized. I live for those first sips of iced espresso in the mornings. It’s one of the things I look to forward most in the mornings and I’m sure a lot of you would agree. It’s the little things in life <3.
So, today I’m bringing you my own little concoction of an iced espresso drink that I love to make in the mornings. I’m sure you’ll love it, too. I love drinking this in the summertime, but I also drink it during winter, too. I know, you probably just thought to yourself, “Whaaat?” And you probably think I’m crazy. But I just love my iced coffee, what can I say? I dare you to drink this iced coffee in the winter! We can be crazy together ;).
I use chocolate syrup in this recipe because uh hello, it’s the best combination ever! Besides, who doesn’t like chocolate in their mornings? Just don’t let your kids get ahold of this drink. I don’t think it would be pretty.
Once I brew the Espresso, I like to chill it in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes so that once I pour it over the ice, it won’t be watered down. No one likes watered down coffee! Eewww.
Now, I’m about to let you in on my secret that I use for this recipe. I like to use half and half (or heavy cream) and pour it over the Espresso. The cream starts to swirl it’s way down into the Espresso, making it extra creamy and turning it into a velvety, caramel color. It’s heavenly! Just LOOK at those glorious colors!
I could stare at those pictures all day.
Using heavy cream in your coffee just gives it that wonderful richness to your coffee and you enjoy it a little bit more.
I wish you could smell the espresso beans through the picture. I just LOVE the smell of coffee. Makes me feel happy! 🙂
And don’t worry, this won’t be the only coffee drink I will be sharing with you. Trust me, Heather and I will be bringing you plenty more! We’re both coffee addicts if you couldn’t tell already. So, if you’re feeling a little tired or just meh, whip up this espresso drink and you’ll be ready to get going in no time!
